TALKS

Tools using Nix under the hood are popping up everywhere to simplify development workflows. Yet very few people know much about Nix other than that it is complex. Having used NixOS to daily drive my various development machines for 2 years, I will be sharing insights into how NixOS can be used to declaratively manage development environments, but also to customize private machines ad absurdum safely. This session can serve as a gentle introduction to what Nix and NixOS are, and what craziness can be achieved with them. You will learn how Nix is already being used by some organisations to simplify developer onboarding, and how you can leverage it on your private machines. You will also get to hear what aspects still make NixOS difficult to adopt in its current state, and what facets still need some refining.

If you are curious about Nix, or are frustrated with inconsistent development environments at your work, this session is perfect for you.
